HUNT DEVELOPMENT GROUP AND KAMA‘ĀINA KIDS SIGN LEASE FOR DAY CARE CENTER IN KALAELOA
Honolulu, HI – Hunt Development Group and Kama‘āina Kids have signed a lease to open a Kama‘āina Kids facility in Kalaeloa. The facility will serve families from ‘Ewa to Kapolei with infant, toddler and preschool programs.
“We are proud to be partnering with Kama‘āina Kids, and we are pleased that this great facility will offer quality education and care for those in the neighboring communities,” said Steve Colón, president of the Hawai‘i division of Hunt Development Group. “This Kama‘āina Kids facility is the first public preschool facility in the new growth area of Kalaeloa, and we are thrilled to be a part of this important addition to the community. This facility – which was once owned and managed by the U.S. Navy – was previously open to just military families, and now that it is open to the public, many more will be able to benefit from this state-of-the-art preschool.”
The nearly 9,000 square foot preschool facility sits on a 1.88 acre lot. Due to the large size of the lot, Kama‘āina Kids expects to be able to offer many amenities that are typically not offered in preschools due to space constraints, such as a large outdoor sports and/or activity field.
“The Hawai‘i Community Development Authority recognizes how important child development is to our Kalaeloa community and we commend Hunt Development Group’s commitment to securing a lease,” said Anthony Ching, executive director of HCDA. “Once again, the center will be open to our young keiki, providing them the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.”
“It’s exciting that Hunt appreciates the need for more child care facilities and learning centers on the west side and has partnered with Kama‘āina Kids in Kalaeloa,” said Maeda Timson, chair of the Makakilo/Kapolei/Honokai Hale Neighborhood Board. “It is another much needed service for our young families and we welcome them.”
The management of 499 acres of land at Kalaeloa, including the land that the day care center is on, was transferred from the Navy to Ford Island Ventures earlier this year. Hunt Development Group is developing the property for Ford Island Ventures.
